- We have a Novell Netware 3.2 network and want to establish a shared
- modem pool (initially with just one modem). The server machine, i.e.
- the machine with the modems on it (not the fileserver), is an IBM 386
- with 4 MB of RAM. The client machines are pentiums running Windows
- 95. I have tried installing a number of shareware modem sharing
- programs but to no avail.
-
- Can anyone out there recommend a dos shared modem server
- program that will work well with Windows 95 client programs,
- especially one that will allow me to re-map an entire Windows 95 com
- port to a modem on a remote machine? (I would prefer to avoid NLMs,
- and if I had to use a commercial program I would want to be able to
- tinker with it and make it functional first.)
-
- I have tried winport, wingate, stomper, comshare, modem assist, and
- one or two others, but for the life of me I cannot figure how to tell
- windows95 that it's com port should point to the modem on another
- machine on the network. Can anyone help me?
-
- I am not too familiar with Win95 so some explanation may help.
-
- I had a hard time figuring out what to do to install "stomper"
- but after modifying the system.ini to include stcomm.drv and firing up
- netfos via a dos window I think I got the computers to communicate but
- the server then crashed. Winport required a serial number. Com-share
- and some of the other small dos programs required that I point the
- client modem programs to IRQ 14, which PPP programs and dialup eudora
- simply cannot do. I couldn't find the downloadable shareware file for
- modem assist etc. etc.
-
- Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
